Forest Stakeholders discuss LULUCF proposal and the Clean Energy package
The autumn session of the Civil Dialogue Group (CDG) on Forestry and Cork, which EUSTAFOR attended, took place on 9 December 2016 in the Commission premises in Brussels. The meeting focused on discussing the two main legislative proposals relevant for forests published by the European Commission this year, namely, the LULUCF post-2020 published on 20 July 2016 (link) and the Bioenergy Sustainability Policy, published as part of the “Clean Energy for All Europeans” package on 30 November 2016 (link).
Piotr Borkowski, EUSTAFOR’s Executive Director, shared the conclusions of state forests to date on both files. These had already been included into the earlier Position Paper on LULUCF and the Statement of EUSTAFOR’s President at the EP Intergroup Conference “Sustainable forest biomass in the light of COP21 (Paris)” on 1 December 2016 in Brussels (link).
The CDG also elected its Presidency for the upcoming year. Bernhard Budil (CEPF) was reelected as Chair, whereas Anke Schulmeister-Oldenhove (WWF) and Pedro Albizu (CEPI) were elected as Vice-Chairs.
