GenRes Bridge project develops a European Genetic Resources Strategy

Taking place on 25th and 26th November 2020 the second GenRes Bridge workshop on the European Genetic Resources Strategy was held. It brought together experts, stakeholders and end-users in the field of management of crop, forest and animal genetic resources.

A series of webinars provided background information for the workshop.

The three webinars addressed global (FAO) and EU strategies/policies of relevance for the European Genetic Resources Strategy which is currently under development. Another two webinars presented the draft strategy itself, as well as a concept for integrated conservation and sustainable use of genetic resources at landscape level (demonstration cases).

During the feedback workshop, the draft of the Strategy was presented and participants discussed and developed the key commitments of the strategy. These key committments will form the basis of the Action Plan that will be appended to the main strategy document.

The workshop was convened online rather than as originally planned in Padua, Italy. A series of webinars provided background information for the workshop.

EUSTAFOR has been subcontracted by EUFORGEN/EFI Bonn, a coordinator of the GenRes Bridge project, to disseminate information about the project’s outcomes within its network and to share state forest expertise on the management and conservation of genetic resources.

More details about the first workshop held last year are available here.

EUSTAFOR is looking forward to further participation and representing the role of state forests in increasing the effectiveness of sustainable management through the use of forest genetic resources.
