Swedish forestry and bioeconomy seminar

The seminar Swedish Forest Management and the Bieconomy was held at the Permanent Representation of Sweden to the EU on 28 November 2017in Brussels. MEPs Jytte Guteland and Linnea Engström, who both spoke on forest management and bioenergy topics. Sveaskog, EUSTAFOR’s Swedish member, was represented by Sara Östh who gave an introduction to Forestry – the Swedish way.

In the seminar, hosted by the Europaforum Northern Sweden, Swedish forest management and bioeconomy was on the agenda from both a practical and scientific perspective. There were also panel discussions, with, among others, MEPs Jytte Guteland and Linnea Engström, who both spoke on forest management and bioenergy topics. Sveaskog, EUSTAFOR’s Swedish member, was represented by Sara Östh who gave an introduction to Forestry – the Swedish way.

Several speakers underlined how Swedish forest management is both sustainable and essential to the national and regional economy of Sweden, as well as contributing to the world-wide attempts to mitigate climate change and substitute fossil fuels. For this to continue to work, it is important that the flexibility of the use of forest feedstocks is kept, rather than introducing overly-specific regulations on the EU level.
