[Webinar] SDG 15 Day: Focus on Forests in the Super Year of Nature
The COVID-19 outbreak has made our aim to achieve sustainable development within this decade even more challenging, and this includes the Sustainable Development Goal 15: Life on Land. More than ever before, we need to strengthen our efforts, across sectors and regions, to improve livelihoods and mitigate climate change.
The Joint UNECE/FAO Forestry and Timber Section organises the webinar “SDG 15 Day: Focus on Forests in the Super Year of Nature”, highlighting some of the important ongoing work throughout the UN system and beyond. The webinar will take place on 2 November, from 10 am to 1 pm CET. Some of the topics will be covered include:
- What is the current state of our forests, based on the most recent Forest Resources Assessment (FRA) report?
- While most of the forest area in the UNECE region is managed sustainably, there are areas that are in desperate need of restoration and improved biodiversity through collaboration and funding.
- What is the role of the international community in overcoming the challenges of securing finances and support to restore forests and biodiversity in these areas so that we can deliver on the targets of SDG 15?
