Providing Sustainable Solutions – The North European Forestry

Venue:  Helsinki EU Office, Rue Guimard 7, 1040 Brussels

Forests cover about 60% of the land area in the Nordic-Baltic countries and forestry and forest products constitute an important part of the economy, not least in rural areas. Forest products are one of the keys to the route towards the transition from a fossil-based economy to a bio-based circular economy.

At the same time the forests of the North also provide other ecosystem services for the benefit of humans. This includes carbon storage, clear water, clean air, biodiversity, aesthetics, cultural and social experience that are all important for the benefit of humans.

The Nordic-Baltic research organisations’ network PROFOR would like to invite stakeholders and policymakers to discuss synergies and to highlight trade-offs between sustainable forest production and other ecosystem services, in an European and a science-based knowledge context.
