EUSTAFOR presents its vision during Forest Navigator workshop

The ForestNavigator Stakeholder Board Workshop was held on 16-17 September 2024 with around 20 participants. This event updated the ForestNavigator stakeholders on the project’s outputs, including key data and research results. Workshop participants delved into discussions on the ForestNavigator Portal, shaping and contributing to its content, functionalities, and design. Additionally, the event focused on EU policy assessment, examining the coherence of various policies and EU policy goals, and the development of forest scenarios. The event was attended by Ann-Mari Kuparinen and Roberto Stelstra.

The workshop started off with an overview of the project achievements of last year, followed by a range of presentations covering several topics. Towards the end of the first day the meeting broke up in breakout groups, where the following topics were discussed:

• Adaptation to climate change and natural disturbances
• Biodiversity conservation strategies
• Bioeconomy and mitigation: synergies and trade-offs

EUSTAFOR was involved in the discussions focusing on Bioeconomy and Adaptation to Climate Change.

The first day finished with poster presentations, in which EUSTAFOR had the opportunity to present its poster with a vision (based on European State Forests 2024+) to the parties present.

The second day saw even more presentations and associated discussions, and another breakout session where potential use story lines were explored. The day finished up with a panel discussion on recent policy developments in the forest sector. The invited panelists were:

• Jurij Krajcic, DG-CLIMA: Carbon Removal Certification Regulation
• Adrian Tišťan, DG-ENV: Forest Monitoring Framework, Forest Strategy, and Biodiversity strategy
• Markus Lier, DG-AGRI: CAP related forest measures
• Nicolas Robert, EEA: Forest Information System for Europe (FISE)

As the list of presentations is too extensive to upload, please have a look at the agenda and contact roberto.stelstra@eustafor.eu if you see a topic you would like to read the presentation off.
