EUFORE enters second phase with the FOREST partnership

During the FTP Advisory Board meeting, EUFORE held a workshop introducing the second part of their work. EUSTAFOR has been subcontractor to the EUFORE project since the beginning, and has both assisted in dissemination of surveys and results, as well as contributed to workshops. The project runs from 2022 – November 2026, but has already resulted in the publication of EUFORE’s Strategic Research & Innovation Agenda (SRIA) in October 2025.

The workshop introduced the FOREST partnership (full title: FOrests, forestry and the forest-based sector: REsearch and innovation for a Sustainable Transition).
The duration of the Partnership will be 10 years and the EC has committed 70M Euro (from Horizon budget). The National Funding Agencies have committed another 241M Euro for this period, bringing the total Partnership costs to ca 311M Euro. The estimated funding made available for applicants is estimated to 235M Euro. The planning is to launch 7 open calls, funding some 200-250 projects with approximately 400 beneficiaries in total. In addition, practical collaboration formats are proposed such as living lab pilots, joint monitoring projects, sharing research and technology infrastructure, interaction forums and opportunities for training and international networking for young researchers.

The partnership will officially launch on 1 June. The topics of the calls are not known yet, but EUFORE’s SRIA 2025 will serve as a strategic compass. The rules of eligibility are unsure for as of now, and will largely be decided by the National Funding Agencies. The list of national requirements will be released at a later stage, as well as the funding budgets.
The website will soon come online.

EUSTAFOR will follow the developments of this new partnership closely and promote any interesting opportunities for the state forest organizations. A workshop will take place on 29-30 September in Brussels. More info, and a registration link, will follow in June.
