Biodiversity calls under Horizon Europe: update & topics

A number of calls and topics on biodiversity and ecosystem services have been launched under Horizon Europe, with deadlines planned next year:

• The NATURE call (“Transformative Change Towards a Nature-Positive Economy and Society”) under Horizontal activities (budget of EUR 227 million).
• Cluster 6 2027 calls, for which info-days will take place on 13 and 14 January 2027 in hybrid format in Brussels:
  Horizon Europe info days—Cluster 6 Food, Bioeconomy, Natural Resources, Agriculture and Environment. Brokerage event on 15 January 2027.

 “NATURE Call” topics:

Deadline 14/01/2027:

• Living labs co-creating solutions for the restoration of ecosystems addressing implementation bottlenecks and improving resilience to risks. RIA, EUR 60 million for 6 projects.
• Networking to scale up living labs for nature restoration solutions and to address bottlenecks to implementation. CSA, EUR 4 million for 1 project.
• Innovative solutions to fight wildlife trafficking and to reduce invasion of invasive alien species. Innovation action, EUR 13 million for 1 project.
• Cost-effective biodiversity monitoring for EU policies. RIA, EUR 16 million for 3 projects.
• Assessing direct and indirect drivers of biodiversity decline of invertebrates. RIA, EUR 15 million for 2 projects.
• Understanding the nature and the extent of the effects of PFAS on biodiversity and ecosystem services. RIA, EUR 11,4 million for 2 projects
• Better understanding, anticipating and addressing the biodiversity benefits and impacts of the clean and digital industries. RIA, EUR 18 million for 3 projects
• Systemic approaches to accelerate transformative change for biodiversity. RIA, EUR 15,6 million for 4 projects

Deadline 16/09/2027:

• Advancing interdisciplinary, data-driven research at the biodiversity- health interface under a One Health approach. RIA, EUR 20 million for 1 project

• Integrating Remote Sensing and in-situ observations of Biodiversity, towards a fully interoperable observation and data framework. RIA, EUR 10 million for 2 projects
• Science-policy support to the implementation of EU and global biodiversity policies and strategies. CSA, EUR 7 million for 1 project
• Technical innovation to protect ecosystems and to scale up their restoration. Innovation Action, EUR 14 million for 2 projects
• Living Labs for the eradication and/or management of invasive alien species. RIA, EUR 24 million for 3 projects
• Accelerating the transition to a nature positive economy: Integrating biodiversity into the private sector. RIA, EUR 14 million for 2 projects
• Living labs driving transformative change via knowledge integration and inclusive governance. RIA, EUR 14 million for 2 projects
• Health of ecosystems and wild species, predictions and impacts on human health, in the face of existing and emerging stressors, from a One Health approach. RIA, EUR 14 million for 2 projects
